The problem
The challenge
Affordable Painter is Tony's business in Bournemouth. He's been a painter and decorator for over 25 years, doing houses, shops and rental properties across Bournemouth and Poole.
He's got 82 Google reviews with a 4.9 average, which is brilliant. People mention how clean and tidy he is, how careful he is with the prep and how fair the price was. One customer had him wallpaper a ceiling, which she said was really tricky, and said it looks so good.
His old site was on Webador. To be fair to it, it did one thing well: his number was big and right at the top. But none of his reviews were on the homepage. They were tucked away on a separate Testimonials page, and the homepage finished with a plain Google Maps link at the bottom. His photos were in a slideshow near the bottom of the page, one at a time.
Our approach
What we did
We found Tony on Google and built him a free website from his own photos, his own wording and his Google reviews, then sent it over to him.
The headline is his own line, "Local, reliable and experienced painter." Next to it is a house he painted, with one of his reviews on top: "Tony and Mick did an amazing job for a great price." Just underneath, there's a bar showing his 25+ years, his 4.9 rating and his 82 reviews.
There's a before and after slider of one of the houses he's done, so people can drag across and see the difference. The reviews section has his customers' reviews in full, a button to see all 82 on Google, and a link for past customers to leave one.
His photos are in a gallery you can filter by exterior, interior and commercial. All ten questions from his old FAQ page are on there too. The contact form asks where the job is and what needs doing, and on a phone there's a Call Tony button stuck to the bottom of the screen.
Moving his domain took a couple of extra steps. It was registered through Webador, so Tony moved it over to his own account first and then pointed it at us. His Gmail wasn't touched. Any old pages Google already had for him now go to the right part of the new site, and it went live on www.affordable-painter.com on 5 November.
