DK Electrical · Sunderland

The Problem

The Challenge

DK Electrical is Dan's business. He's an electrician based in Washington, covering Sunderland, Newcastle and down into Durham: EV chargers, fault finding, EICRs, consumer units, sockets and lighting, with a 24/7 line for when the power goes off.

A lot of his work already comes straight off his Google profile, without a penny spent on ads, and his reviews explain why. Read a few and the same job keeps coming up: EV charger installs. It's also the work he wants more of.

His old website didn't say any of that. The headline was "Electrical Services by DK Electrical", over a photo of pendant lights, with one button: "Get a free quote". When we audited it in August, the homepage listed sockets, lights and consumer unit changes and didn't mention EV chargers. His reviews were on there, but sat over a blown-up copy of his logo, and his phone number was small grey text at the very bottom, under his address. In a trade where most people just want to ring someone, the number was about the hardest thing on the page to find.

The EV gap was the first thing we told him about when we got in touch.

Our Approach

What We Did

Dan applied for our free starter website on 27 September, and Will went through the brief with him on a call the next afternoon.

He already had a black and gold logo, so the site kept it and built everything else around it. The rest of the brief came down to one thing: make it easy to ring him.

So his number is the first button on the page, under a headline that says what he is and where: "Electrician & EV charger installer in Sunderland, Newcastle & Durham". On a desktop it stays in the header the whole way down, next to the 24/7 line. On a phone there's a Call now bar pinned to the bottom of the screen with a WhatsApp button beside it. There's a form near the end for anyone who'd rather type, but it's the last option, not the first.

EV chargers come first in the menu and get the first section. Every charger in the photos is one Dan fitted, and the process starts with a WhatsApp: a photo of the consumer unit, one of where the charger's going and one of the meter box, so the customer gets a straight answer before anything's booked.

The 24/7 line gets its own gold band, headed "Power gone off? Ring any hour.", next to a review from a customer whose kitchen sockets all went off early on a Sunday morning.

The everyday jobs are laid out as a consumer unit, one circuit per service: EV, fault finding, EICRs, boards, sockets, lights and outside lights. Scroll down the list and the matching circuit switches on.

All ten of his Google reviews are on the page, copied word for word. And the about section says the thing that matters to someone letting a stranger into their house: when you ring DK Electrical, you're ringing Dan.

He kept his own domain. We moved dk-electrical.co.uk over to the new site, so there was nothing new to buy.
