The problem
The challenge
ELB Carpentry is Peter's business in East London. He's been doing bespoke carpentry for over 15 years, mainly fitted wardrobes, kitchens, bathroom furniture, alcove units and floating shelves. Everything's made in his own workshop, and customers can see a 3D drawing of it first.
His customers love him. He's got 73 Google reviews and a 5.0 rating. One customer had wardrobes built for their loft and spare bedroom and fitted in two days. Another had bookshelves made for their living room. One of them even mentions how patient he was with their last minute changes.
The work was brilliant and there was loads of it, but it was hard to find. His old site was a standard black and white WordPress theme. On a phone it opened on a photo with his name and a strapline, and that was it. No number to tap and no reviews. His photos were split across five different gallery pages in a dropdown menu, and none of his reviews were on the homepage.
Our approach
What we did
We found Peter on Google and built him a free website from his own photos, his own wording and his Google reviews. He liked it, so we jumped on a call with him to go through it.
The headline is "Bespoke carpentry, made to measure", with his own wardrobes and alcove units around it and his rating underneath, 5.0 from 73 Google reviews. He doesn't have a logo, so we took the colours from his own work, the walnut on the vanity units he builds.
On the call, Peter said he wanted every photo from his old site in one place. So the gallery now has all 111 of them, and you can filter by the type of job. If someone's after alcove units, they tap once and only see alcove units.
Each of his four services has its own card with a photo of a job he's done. There's a before and after slider, all of his reviews, and an about section in his own words about the workshop, the 3D drawings and the hand-painted finishes. He asked for his Instagram to go in the footer, so we added that too.
On a phone, there's a Call Peter button stuck to the bottom of the screen.
His email runs through Google, so we copied all of that over before moving his domain. Any old pages Google had for him now go to the right part of the new site, and it went live on www.elbcarpentry.co.uk on 5 November.
